“Just heaven: What a wonderful time on my second visit. Beth was always thoughtful, helpful and kind. Most of all she LISTENS!!! She brought to life the image I imagined.”
—Dixie Clare

Dixie Clare visited me this summer for her second makeover experience. She routinely goes out in public en femme and is confident presenting in a day-to-day look and in evening attire. For her makeover, she veered in a more playful direction.
She decided on a whimsical shoot showcasing a patriotic, A-line dress that she found online. She paired the sleeveless, star-studded dress with a petticoat and a pearl necklace. Then she donned white stiletto pumps with an ankle strap and a bow across the forefoot.
The Studio Wardrobe: Finishing Off Dixie Clare’s Look
For hair, Dixie Clare tried on several wigs from my dressing service wardrobe. She decided on an auburn wig that I had purchased from Joi Wigs in Springfield, Virginia. We liked the contrast this provided with her skin tone. The bold auburn color played well with the bold red, white, and blue colors of the dress. She also tried on a dirty blonde wig of a similar length and style, the Noriko Jackson in Maple Sugar-R. However, that exact color of blonde made her look washed out, at least with this outfit. We found a super-light blonde bob later in the day that framed her face well and looked good with her complexion. The Raquel Welch Upstage, large cap, worked beautifully for a more serious, mature look as hostess (not pictured).

Dixie Clare wanted timeless, classy makeup look that would work with both this playful, retro outfit and a little black dress. Red lipstick was a must, which matched her red fingernails and toenails. For eyes, I used MAC brown eyeshadows and a gel eyeliner.

The Photoshoot in the Garden
After the makeover, I shot photos of Dixie Clare in my rear garden. I used my Nikon mirrorless camera and a single strobe light equipped with a beauty dish. Dixie Clare smiled from ear-to-ear as she playfully twirled her red glasses. As she posed, I suggested small changes to enhance her look. After each round of photos, we reviewed them on the back of my camera. This allowed Dixie Clare to see which poses and details worked best for her.
After the sundress, she changed her hair, outfit, and demeanor to play the lady of the house who enjoyed mint juleps and entertaining guests.
