Social Groups for Trans Women, Crossdressers, and Femme Genderfluid People in the Washington, DC area

The DC Trans Ladies Community and Events welcomes transgender women, MtF crossdressers, and genderfluid femme people in the Washington, DC metro area for regular social soirees at restaurants and hotels in Northern Virginia and Maryland. I serve as assistant organizer and attend most soirees. If it is your first time to a soiree, let me know when you RSVP and I will make sure you feel welcome.

Crossdresser Heaven is one of the largest online communities for crossdressers and femme-presenting people. The site includes discussion forums, personal galleries, a coming-out support section, and a large active membership from around the world. It is a good starting point if you are looking for connection and community from the privacy of your home.

Transgender Heaven is a sister site to Crossdresser Heaven with a focus on transgender women. It offers a similar combination of forums, personal profiles, and community support, and draws a large international membership.

Support Groups for Trans Women near Washington, DC

Second Friday, sponsored by TGEA is a welcoming monthly gathering for transgender and gender-expansive people and their families in the DC metro area. MAGIC, TGEA, and Second Friday have merged, bringing together three trans support groups. Spouses and partners are warmly encouraged to attend. It is a good option if you are looking to meet others who are navigating similar experiences in a structured support group setting rather than a social environment.

The DC Center is the LGBTQ+ community center for Washington, DC. It offers community events, support groups, health and wellness programs, and social services for LGBTQ+ people of all backgrounds. The DC Center serves as a hub for much of the organized LGBTQ+ community life in the city.

Military and Veterans Group for Trans Women

Modern Military Association of America is the nation’s largest nonprofit supporting actively serving LGBTQ+ military members, veterans, and their families. They provide peer support, legal resources, advocacy, and community connection for those navigating the intersection of military service and LGBTQ+ identity.

SPART*A is a grassroots organization run by and for transgender service members and veterans. They focus on peer support, community building, and advocacy.

TAVA — the Transgender American Veterans Association — advocates specifically for transgender veterans . They work on healthcare access, benefits, policy, and peer support tailored to the unique experiences of transgender people who have served.

Human Rights Campaign is the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization. Their transgender resources section covers legal rights, workplace protections, healthcare access, and coming-out guidance. HRC also maintains a Healthcare Equality Index and Corporate Equality Index that can be useful when evaluating employers and providers.

SMYAL — Supporting and Mentoring Youth Advocates and Leaders — serves LGBTQ+ youth in the Washington, DC metro area. They offer after-school programming, housing support, mental health services, and advocacy for young people from middle school through their mid-twenties.
