Over the years I have built up a collection of resources that my clients, my friends, and I have found useful. Everything here has been personally used, vetted, or recommended by someone in my community. I update these pages as things change, and I always welcome suggestions from clients who have found something worth sharing. These resources are specifically curated for transgender women, MtF crossdressers, and genderfluid people exploring femme presentation in the Washington, DC metro area and beyond.

Your Femme Look: Makeup, Shopping, and Presentation Resources
Looking and feeling beautiful starts with having the right skills, the right products, and the right people in your corner. The resources below cover makeup technique, clothing and lingerie, body shaping, and the local hair and nail professionals who know how to work with transgender women and crossdressers.
Makeup Tips: Neutralize Beard Shadow
Beard shadow is one of the most common challenges for trans women and crossdressers who do their own makeup, and getting it right makes an enormous difference. This step-by-step guide walks you through skin preparation, color correction, foundation application, and priming, with skin-tone-specific product recommendations and mixing ratios. Whether you are preparing for your first makeup lesson or building your own at-home routine, this is the place to start.
Shopping
This page covers my favorite trans-friendly clothing and lingerie stores in the Washington, DC metro area, from intimate boutiques like Lotus Blooms in Old Town Alexandria and Belle Mode Intimates in Fairfax to plus-size chain stores like Torrid and Lane Bryant. I have also included a detailed guide to DressTech shapewear with specific product recommendations, information about Noemi’s Creations for clothing alterations, and a link to my Amazon storefront with makeup accessories, wig links, and shaping options. As part of client outings, we often visit these stores together, so every recommendation comes from experience.
Hair and Nail Services
Finding hair removal, wig, hair styling, and nail professionals who are welcoming to transgender women and crossdressers can take time. This page lists the providers I personally recommend in the DC metro area, including my top choices for laser hair removal and electrolysis, hair and wig salons for growing out your own hair or purchasing a quality wig cut and styled to fit you, and two nail salons in Takoma Park and Alexandria where I have brought many clients. If you would like me to accompany you to any of the salon appointments as part of a total makeover and outing, I would love to do that.
Going Out En Femme in the Washington, DC Metro Area
Taking your femme self beyond the studio and into the world is a big step and having affirming establishments can make the difference between a stressful experience and a memorable one. Whether you are looking for a welcoming bar, a new community of friends, or a deeper dive into the kink and lifestyle scene, the resources below will help you find your people and your places.
Trans-Friendly Bars and Restaurants
This page covers the LGBTQ+-friendly bars in the Washington, DC metro area that I recommend for a first outing or a regular night out, including Freddie’s Beach Bar in Arlington, which is one of my top choices for clients going out en femme for the first time. I have also included the Takoma Park restaurants that my clients and I visit most often on accompanied outings, including Motorkat and Roscoe’s Pizzeria. Every venue listed is LGBTQ+ welcoming, and most venues listed offer unisex restrooms, so there is rarely a need to worry about which restroom to use.
Crossdresser/Transgender Community Groups
Building connections with other trans women and crossdressers can make the femme journey more meaningful. This page lists social groups, peer support groups, military and veterans resources, and other LGBTQ+ organizations in the Washington, DC metro area, including the DC Trans Ladies Meetup, TGEA and Second Friday, and national organizations like HRC and SMYAL. Whether you are looking for a casual night out with other trans women and crossdressers or a more structured support environment, you will find options here.

NSFW: Lifestyle
For clients who want to explore the BDSM and kink community en femme, this page lists DC and Baltimore area clubs and events, local kink and fetish groups, and online resources including FetLife. Risqué at the Crucible, held on the second Saturday of the month, is my personal favorite. If you prefer to keep your kink exploration private and discreet, a fantasy feminization session at my studio is always an option.
Gender-Affirming Health and Transition Support near Washington, DC and Baltimore
Accessing quality gender-affirming care can feel overwhelming, and I hope this section helps you navigate some of the options. The page below reflects my personal experience as well as that of my wife Giselle, who began her transition in 2018, and the feedback of many clients over the years. For a broader overview of transition support services I offer at the studio, including makeup lessons for daytime looks, deportment coaching, wig shopping, and virtual coaching, visit my Transition Support page.
Gender-Affirming Health and Legal Professionals
This page lists gender therapists, a gender-affirming psychiatrist, health clinics including Whitman-Walker Health, HRT providers, the facial feminization and gender-affirming surgeons that Giselle used for her own surgeries, and legal resources for name and gender marker changes. I have either personally met the therapists listed here or they come highly recommended by my trans clients. I update this page whenever I learn something new worth sharing.
Personal Stories and Blogs by Trans Women
If you have been wondering what it is actually like to come out at work, to fly on a plane en femme, or to simply live your life openly over years and decades, these are the pieces and blogs worth reading. Two come from Ann M., one of my clients. Two come from women who have built their communities online since 2007 and 2013 respectively.
Coming Out for Equality at Work
In 2016, Ann came out as transgender during a federal government diversity training in Washington, DC. Her account of that day — the preparation, the moment itself, and the response she received — stayed with me long after she first shared it. Whether you are considering coming out at work or simply want a reminder of how far acceptance has come, her story is worth reading.
Flying en Femme
In 2014, Ann flew on a commercial airline en femme for the first time, traveling from Dulles International Airport while fully dressed as a woman and carrying a male ID. Her account covers the preparation, the ticket counter, the TSA checkpoint, the flight, and the hotel room reflection that followed. If you have been wondering what it is actually like to move through the world as yourself, Ann’s experience is that it is far more ordinary and far more rewarding than you might expect.
Femulate
Stana started Femulate with a clear purpose: to encourage crossdressers to escape from their closets and go out into the world, sharing her own experience as proof that it can be done. She has been writing the blog since 2007 and publishes new posts frequently, covering daily femme life, fashion, going out en femme, and what it means to live authentically as a non-transitioning trans woman. Femulate has featured Giselle and me along with Makeovers with Elizabeth Taylor, which is how I first discovered it. If you are looking for reassurance that a full and joyful femme life is possible, Stana’s articles are worth your time.
The Heroines of My Life
Monika Kowalska has been interviewing transgender women from around the world since 2013 and her archive now spans more than 700 interviews. Her subjects include artists, activists, veterans, professionals, and everyday women living authentically across every background and stage of life. Giselle and I were each featured in the blog, which is how I first discovered it. Reading even a handful of these interviews is a reminder that there is a vast and vibrant global community of trans women living full and meaningful lives.
