From lake reflections to fields of flowers, Allison finds her beauty within
“I was able to let go of some of the most difficult emotions and feelings I have kept locked deep inside me for the first time as a result of our time together during the peony experience. The beauty of the peonies, woods, and lake, combined to clear my focus as I map out the next phase of my life.
“I cannot thank Elizabeth enough for her advice, counsel, support, and friendship for these last 10 years. While she has done so much to help me look more feminine, more significantly, she has helped me find the beauty within.”

This is why I love my job. There’s nothing better than bringing joy and happiness to the people I work with especially long-term clients like Allison. Supporting transgender women in their journey of self-expression, transformation, and transition is my passion. I’m honored to be part of Allison’s story.

For Allison’s recent trans makeover and photoshoot, we planned a full ten-hour day together. We began with a dramatic makeup makeover at my studio in Takoma Park, Maryland, followed by a three-outfit, outdoor photoshoot at the peony gardens and lakeside trails at Seneca Creek State Park.
The Studio Transformation: Pink, Purple, and a Bit of Glitter
Allison loves going bold with her makeup for photoshoots, especially since she typically wears natural, daytime looks. She wanted a transformation that would stand out in photos while still looking feminine and elegant. After reviewing her outfits, I suggested a dramatic pink and purple smokey eye with a pop of pink-gold glitter on the lids, black eyeliner, false lashes, and a bright pink MAC Powder Kiss lipstick.
She wore her natural, shoulder-length, wavy hair—perfect for catching the sunlight and staying cool throughout the day.

The Peonies Are Calling
During Allison’s trans makeover last October, I mentioned the Schwartz Peony Garden that blooms in mid-May at Maryland’s Seneca Creek State Park and showed her photos I had found online. She loved the idea, and we set a date to make it happen. The 6300 acre park offers excellent photography locations near Clopper Lake, next to the boat dock, in the woods, along rustic split-rail fencing, and at a historic log cabin. We explored three of these locations during our photoshoot: the peony fields, the lakeshore, and the boat dock. We were able to park near each location while indoor, plumbed restrooms made changing outfits a breeze.

Perfect for a Day at the Lake: Floral Sundresses
For her first two outfits, Allison chose two floral sundresses that blended into the natural setting of the flowers and lake. She added hats, a purse, and a pink, lacy parasol for props. She looked beautiful among the blanket of peonies and relaxed at the lake.

Juxtaposition: The Pink Ballerina Arrives
Allison changed into her final outfit: a pink ballerina platter tutu paired with white tights and pink flats. We revisited our favorite spots with the softer light of late afternoon and the golden light of the hour of magic in our favor. Dressed as a ballerina, Allison came to life, and I could see the joy and peace in her face and body language.
After shooting at the boat dock, we returned to the peony garden and field, catching the tail end of the hour of magic. For an extra touch of whimsy, we added iridescent fairy wings to her ensemble. While we were shooting in the peonies, a woman approached Allison and complimented her look! What a thrill!
