Lucy Dresses for Success

Lucy Dresses for Success

Lucy sought out a professional business woman look, complete with a business suit, hose, and low pumps that she provided. She asked for natural looking makeup with light brown eyeshadows and a neutral, defined lip. We experimented with wigs, and she decided on the Cameron from Jon Renau for her professional look while enjoying a longer hairpiece for her glam outfits. After photos in the studio, we strolled through the neighborhood and down New Hampshire Avenue taking photos during the hour of magic and as the evening light faded.

Join us for the DC Trans Ladies’ Spring Soiree in Arlington, VA on April 23!

Join us for the DC Trans Ladies’ Spring Soiree in Arlington, VA on April 23!

Greeting ladies! Join the DC Trans Ladies Meetup group once again at Samuel Beckett’s, an Irish gastropub in Shirlington, Virginia for our spring Soiree event. Dress up to impress with your favorite flirty, spring dress or a similar chic ensemble, perhaps complimented with a new purse or other accent accessory to lend sparkle to the night. And you can savor Irish-themed food and drink offered by the establishment while socializing with friends.

The Sam Beckett’s management is excited to host our 4th event. We’ve had about 50 guests at our first two affairs with a smaller crowd at the holiday party. Beckett’s has an intimate atmosphere yet they can accommodate up to 70 of us!

As was the case last time, we will be getting separate checks and ordering off their standard dinner menu. Price range is moderate. Check out a typical dinner menu here: https://samuelbecketts.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Food-Menu-November-Draft-2.pdf

To attend the Spring Soiree, please join the DC Trans Ladies Meetup and RSVP to the spring soiree there. The soiree is from 7-11:30 p.m. Although the event states an end time of 11:30PM this is not a hard limit since Beckett’s is usually open to as late as 1 a.m. Everyone is free to mingle and chat after 11:30 — and we definitely hope you do!

Guests
Significant others are welcome! Please be sure to include them as your +1 when you RSVP. Please RSVP soonest as we need to update the venue with our numbers one week prior to the event.

Attire
We want to reinforce the goodwill produced at our first three events so we expect everyone to wear attire appropriate for a mainstream space. No fetish wear, please.

Parking
Shirlington has extensive, free, garage parking on weekends and evenings. Our preferred parking facility is the Quincy St. Garage at 2901 S Randolph St, Arlington, VA 22206. There’s a staircase to Randolph Street on the NW corner of the garage. This garage is just a two minute walk to the pub and has ample parking on all levels.

Drop-off Location & Entrance
The entrance to Sam Beckett’s is located on Campbell Street across from the Peet’s Coffee even though the address is 2800 S Randolph St. If you are getting dropped off, please use 4150 Campbell Avenue for closer access to the front door.

Feeling nervous?
If you’d like someone to meet you at your car and walk in with you, no problem! Just text Beth, and she (or another guest) will come out to walk you in and introduce you to the other ladies.

Lodging
The Hilton Garden Inn in Shirlington has rooms available from $140 and up. We don’t have any special rate negotiated so be sure to check out your discount options online when you book, e.g. use hotel chain points, AAA membership discounts, etc. It’s just a two minute walk from the hotel to the pub! Hotel website: https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/dcaasgi-hilton-garden-inn-arlington-shirlington/

COVID-19 Guidance
It would be prudent to bring a face mask for use outside or inside the restaurant as needed. Stay home if you’re feeling ill. Michelle and Beth have been fully vaccinated and anticipate that most of our guests will be too.

Makeup Artist
Elizabeth Taylor has one makeup makeover slot available on April 23 at 2 p.m. at her studio in Takoma Park, MD. You can book online at her makeover menu.

Join the DC Trans Ladies for our Prom Night Soiree!

Join the DC Trans Ladies for our Prom Night Soiree!

Hi ladies! We are so excited to invite you to our first “Prom Night” Soiree in bustling downtown Bethesda at the Doubletree hotel on November 3!

This is the first time we have hosted a Prom Night and we know that the theme resonates on many levels. Clearly, proms offer a fantastic fashion platform for all of us to explore and revel in. Rather than recycling old Halloween cliches (been there, done that), we wanted this season’s soiree to combine the best of 20th Century traditions and 21st Century sensibilities.

The restaurant at the Doubletree Bethesda

Prom Night lets us focus on our inherent femininity inside and out, the passions of youth, the desire for elegance, and dreams of romance. As adults we can and do fully appreciate such things but constraints may not have permitted us to enjoy our prom as we would have liked. Ah—but now we can create memories and do Prom Night the way it should have been—with all the joys of strutting your feminine side.

The full-service bar at Doubletree Bethesda

We are kicking off the evening with a hosted happy hour especially for new girls in Elizabeth (Beth) Taylor’s hotel room. Sip complimentary wine, ask any last-minute questions, get a final zip-up of that dress, and make sure you’re all set for your first soiree. We would love for experienced girls to join our happy hour and help our new girls feel confident.

We will enjoy our Prom Night Dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by our Prom Soiree ’til the bar closes around midnight. Our own Monica Miller will be our in-house DJ, piping tunes through the bar’s sounds system.

Crash at the hotel to make your life easier. Be sure to book using our group rate of $99/night by calling Brittany (or Zak) directly at 240.235.1663. Tell her you are part of the “DC Regional Trans Ladies” and she will give you the rate. If the rate drops later, you’ll get the lower rate. If you are members of Hilton Honors, AAA, or AARP, you can get potentially get discounts for those if you choose to book online instead of using the group rate.

The Doubletree Hotel staff are eager to host us and build on our successes from our Summer in the City Soiree.

At our signature soirees, we invite trans-women, their partners, and friends socialize, network, and relax. We encourage new girls to come out to help boost their confidence and garner tips from those more experienced. And of course, we love having our regulars come out too!

If you’re not feeling ready for girl mode in public, you are still welcome to attend in guy mode. Upon arrival, introduce yourself as a member to the hosts, and we will welcome you warmly. Please consider joining us at the Pre-Soiree Prom Dinner in the hotel’s dining room. It is an opportunity to sit with your sisters and get to know them.

If you’re looking to get your Soiree makeup professionally applied, our very own Elizabeth Taylor (Beth) will be offering makeup makeovers at her room in the hotel (http://makeoverswithelizabethtaylor.fullslate.com). She is now booked for this event. Other makeover artists are listed on our Meetup’s discussion board.

Guest photographer Matt Anderson will be taking event photos during dinner and the Soiree. Matt will also be available for a limited number of private, 20-minute mini-shoots in Beth’s room for an additional fee. Check out his work at http://www.dvj.photography/ He can be reached at dvjphoto@yahoo.com and 301-661-2291. Or you can contact Beth to arrange/ask any questions.

We look forward to seeing you all at Prom Night: A Soiree to Remember!

Michelle, Monica, Suzanne, and Beth

Introducing Rocker Chick, Roxanne Miller

Roxanne Miller loves classic rock so much that she named herself after The Police song, “Roxanne.” She plays electric guitar and awed the Keystone Conference ladies with her karaoke skills. It’s no surprise then that she channeled her inner rock star for this shoot with me at Keystone 2015. Makeup and Photography by Elizabeth Anne Taylor.

Chef Chris Shows off her New Look and Outfits

Chef Chris Shows off her New Look and Outfits

Chris created her new look at her January makeover with Elizabeth Taylor. Chris loves wine, food, cooking, and hospitality so much so that she cooked and presented Anglo-Indian food for my February Trans-Women and Allies party. As a sommelier and wine educator, I paired the wines to her flavor-packed dishes to rave reviews. Check out the DC Trans-Ladies Meetup Group to find out about and RSVP to my parties.
