Retired Navy SEAL and transgender activist Kristin Beck spoke to a full audience including a news crew at her keynote address yesterday at Keystone Conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I had the privilege of applying her makeup, helping her dress for her talk, and capturing her on camera.
Earlier that day, I saw Kristin riding the elevator in her two piece bikini with wet hair from the pool. When she came to see me, we capitalized on her now-clean wet hair to create a beachy look with her daytime makeup. With Kristin’s hazel eyes, we made the green in her eyes pop with purple eyeshadows. Kristin selected rosette lipstick with cream and sugar lipgloss in the center to give plumpness to her lips topped off with icicle lipgloss for shine.
After her wet hair pics, Kristin curled her hair and dressed for her talk, adding jewelry while waiting for the elevator. Downstairs, fans greeted her immediately including Karen Holmes, below, from the DC Metro Area. Then Kristin and I parted ways as she went off to greet the media and her crowd of fans.
B’Ellana volunteered for my Male-to-Female Transformation photo project showing the transformation of Jack to B’Ellana. I applied makeup using a combination of Mary Kay and MAC skin care and cosmetics. B’Ellana styled her hair and chose her clothes and accessories. She identifies as dual gender and feels more complete as a person being able to express both her male and female sides. B’Ellana will be attending the Keystone Conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and is a member of the Vanity Club, a sorority for trans-women.

Omg, girls! I will be doing Kristin Beck’s makeup with a photo shoot on Friday, March 28, at The Keystone Conference! Kristin will be speaking Friday as part of the conference schedule. In case you don’t know, Kristin Beck is a retired Navy SEAL, and the first Navy SEAL to come out as transgender.
She co-authored an autobiography, Warrior Princess, published in the summer of 2013. Amazon provides the following book description:
Chris Beck played high school football. He bought a motorcycle, much to his mother’s dismay, at age 17. He grew up to become a U.S. Navy SEAL, serving our country for twenty years on thirteen deployments, including seven combat deployments, and ultimately earned a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. To everyone who saw him, he was a hero. A warrior. A man.
But underneath his burly beard, Chris had a secret, one that had been buried deep inside his heart since he was a little boy—one as hidden as the panty hose in the back of his drawer. He was transgender, and the woman inside needed to get out.
This is the journey of a girl in a man’s body and her road to self-actualization as a woman amidst the PTSD of war, family rejection and our society’s strict gender rules and perceptions. It is about a fight to be free inside one’s own body, a fight that requires the strength of a Warrior Princess.
Kristin’s story of boy to woman explores the tangled emotions of the transgender experience and opens up a new dialogue about being male or female: Is gender merely between your legs or is it something much bigger?
Kristin Beck is working on an “unofficial” autobiography with another editor that she is entitling “Lady Valor: The First Female Navy SEAL, A journey from War to Peace.”
I don’t know about you, but I am super excited to talk with Kristin Beck at length during her makeover and photo shoot and get to know her better. E-mail me if you’d like to book your Keystone makeover or transformation!
